Reproductive Cycles

Females possess two monthly reproductive cycles which are intimately linked by hormones released from the brain and ovaries. The ovarian cycle provokes changes in the ovaries leading to the maturation and subsequent release of an oocyte each month. The hormones Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH) are involved with this cycle. The other cycle, the menstrual cycle, is concerned with the proliferation and degeneration of the endometrium. Progesterone and oestrogen are the two hormones involved with this cycle.
